Safe behind its old, stone walls, Cardiff Castle was somewhat detached from the city outside. In fact, it’s more a collection of castles dating from the 12th century around a courtyard inhabited by peacocks. The oldest, the 12th century Norman keep that watches over the rest from a motte.
